Bring Intelligence to Your Press
PressIQ DIY Builder’s Kit
Turn your hydraulic press into a smart, repeatable machine. A pre-configured Raspberry Pi touchscreen UI, pre-programmed Arduino modules, and a clean, labeled wiring plan give you cycle control, presets, safety auto-retract, and foot-pedal/joystick operation—without months of R&D. Build it in a weekend; use it for years.
PressIQ DIY Builder’s Guide & Kit
Build pro-level press control without the guesswork. PressIQ gives you a preconfigured control stack for hydraulic presses: a Raspberry Pi touchscreen UI that boots straight into PressIQ, plus two pre-programmed Arduino Nanos for clean encoder and I/O handling. You get repeatable motion between setpoints, Manual/Auto/Cycle modes, accumulative step-down logic, and a safety auto-retract if the lower setpoint isn’t reached in time. Foot pedals, joystick, and illuminated switches are supported.
The Builder’s Guide
A step-by-step manual walks you from layout to first cycle, with the exact order to build, wire, and test. It includes wiring diagrams, DIN-rail layout tips, button-by-button operation, keypad entries, presets and naming, safety settings, and a complete parts list with purchase links.
What’s included in this kit
- 3D-printed parts: touchscreen bezel, two Arduino Nano DIN mounts, one Arduino DIN mount, terminal cover, touch-stylus holder
- Two Arduino Nano modules with firmware preloaded
- MicroSD card preloaded with the PressIQ software image
-60 page Digital Builder’s Guide (PDF) and other related files.
Order the rest
The Builder’s Guide includes a curated Bill of Materials with clickable purchase links—mostly Amazon—for everything you’ll need beyond this kit. Just open the BOM and order from the list; no hunting across sites. Raspberry Pi and other hardware are purchased separately via those links. Depending on current cost of components they could cost $900-$1100.
Why builders choose PressIQ

- Presets, standby setpoints, and accumulative step-down with Right-Pedal Reset
- Safety delay with automatic retract to the upper setpoint; safety lockout support
- Inch/mm units, fractional keypad entry, and clear on-screen references
Real install, real shop. PressIQ runs the press while the dual foot pedals and the magnet-backed joystick keep control where you need it. Being a builder myself, I was inspired two years ago to build this hydraulic press after seeing Denis Tyrell’s work (Tyrell Knifeworks) and his press design.
After using the press for two years, I wanted a more exact, repeatable way to run it—a programmable control box. PressIQ came from necessity: make precise control affordable. The options I found were too expensive for me and for most builders, so I designed my own version. When it worked, I knew it was worth sharing. PressIQ is a cost-effective, fully programmable control with more features, straightforward wiring, and settings that remember themselves at startup.
